Happenings

Well friends, life is flowing along at a rapid pace. The older I get, the more rapidly it passes. Summer is here with it's overbearing glorious heat, and there is a drought in the making. Thankfully, I am able to water my bushes and few little plants and keep them going.

LMW has made it a regular event to play in the water. I should say play with the water. He doesn't really like it splashing up in his face or on his body if the water is cold, but he loves to carry the hose around and water everything in sight. His spaceship, his motorized car, his Nanna.....ahem.

I've done a bit of sewing, getting shower gifts and such done, and am now about to finish up a table topper and matching place mats for myself. I also have been cutting out squares for a summer quilt I'm going to begin. I'm going to take my long, sweet time with it and may even do the piecing by hand. I haven't made up my mind, but I'm leaning toward that. It will take a while, but it will give me something constructive to do while Mr. BLines watches Storage Wars and the History Channel. *grin*

Another lake trip is in the works, planned for the 30th if nothing prevents it, and we are all looking forward to that. A lot of folks I talk with are planning beach trips this summer and I have to admit I envy them.

Last night, the Mr. and I met with some dear friends for an unbelievable meal of fresh vegetables and grilled chicken and pork. I had a real problem keeping control of my eating with all that good food, and especially when our hostess began cutting her home made apple pie that was to. die. for.  And home made ice cream....shut my mouth!

I also got to visit with an old friend from junior high that I dearly love. We haven't seen each other since we grew up and married. What a joy that was!! We are hoping to stay in touch and see each other more often now.

I was thinking how hard it is to keep up with friends when you are raising your family and just trying to take care of them and get through it all. We get derailed by stress and the business of life and friendships fall by the way side. Now that we are empty nesters, we are keen on rejuvenating old friendships and excited to see people we lost touch with.

So that is the end of this post. No pictures to share. Just words wandering around. Enjoy your Sabbath afternoon.

The Eyes Have It

My eyes have always been bad.
I began wearing glasses in the 5 grade I think. I was extremely nearsighted and in high school, I switched to contacts and wore those things wayyy into adulthood.  (Nooo, not the same pair...;)  Then they came out with RK surgery.

I opted to do this about 20 years ago. How scary, knowing someone is gouging your eyeball with a sharp instrument! But really didn't hurt and the results were awesome!! As a matter of fact, my current eye doc says I've had the best results he's ever seen. For all these years, I was able to see perfectly without contacts or glasses. But....Father Time decided to force the issue and for the last two years or so, my reading has been difficult to say the least.
The last two weeks, I've been trying to figure out whether I wanted to wear one contact for reading, bi-focal contacts or just keep doing what I've been doing...wearing dollar store glasses to read. My brain won't deal with the constant fuzziness of one eye all the time, nor will my eyes focus with the bifocal lenses enough to actually read. So, after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I've decided to keep on the same way.
So what if I have to keep a pair of glasses in every room of the house and my purse? They are only $1.00 at The Dollar Tree after all.  I'd wear one of those necklaces that you hook your glasses onto, but I'm not ready to look quite so much like an old librarian lady yet. *grin* For now, I'll put them on and take them off, put them on and take them off, regardless of how many times a day that turns out to be. It's worth it not to have to deal with fuzzy eyes or the hassle of contact lenses.

Now, where did I put my glasses?.....

LMW's Fun MonDAY

Yesterday was an interesting and fun day for LMW and his Nanna and Da. First thing we did was travel around the neighborhood block on our "Mater Wagon."
The little "Mater" truck is motorized, but LMW is still a little unsure of it so he refuses to ride it for more than three feet or so. We accidentally discovered that he will ride it if it's set down inside his red wagon. Funny kid. It's a little harder for Nanna to pull up and down the hills but if it makes him happy, she'll do it and be glad of the exercise.... ahem...

When we turned one of the corners to go down a different street, there in all its glory was a Little Tikes Spaceship on the curb waiting for the garbage pickup. Whoa Nelly!! We took a quick look-see, then proceeded to knock on the door of the house to ask permission to take it home. Fortunately, the lady of the house is not only a fellow church member, but generous. She gladly gave us permission, and pointed out the places on it that needed repair if possible. No big thing!!
It needed a little tlc, so we went to work on it, cleaning it up and taking off the broken slide. LMW already had one, so we attached it where the old one came off. Easy as pie!
NASA engineers were hard at work yesterday, tweaking and polishing the shuttle.
What fun! But the day wasn't over! Next we took a trip to see Mammaw and Pappaw in Rison. LMW's great grandparents, who were tickled pink to see him.
He had a wonderful time running up and down the hall and turning flips on the carpet. Fun, fun!! And still the party wasn't over... Next we ran by to visit "Aunt Bebe" (Nanna's sister#1) All the kids have always called her that, being easier to say than Beverly.
According to his Mommy, LMW slept very well during the night as well he should have. Such a busy and fun time he had. Who says Mondays are bad??!! But wait! There's more! When we got home, LMW had a BINGO prize in the mail. Wooo Hooo!! Ms. Sharon sent this:
How cute is that?!!! He tried his best to tear into the sprinkler, but it was late and Nanna put it away until Wednesday when he can really get into it and play.
Aren't these little charm squares adorable??!! I can't wait to make a little soft quilt or throw for LMW with them. He wanted me to take off the binding so he could see what they were and jabbered about the puppy. Thanks Sharon!!!

That was quiet enough fun for one day, I can assure you. I'm looking forward to sprucing up the Spaceship a bit more with some paint, and letting the boy play in the water. Fun times!!
