Weekly Update

Hmmm, do I actually update weekly? Doubtful. But I felt the need to blog a little.

Things are good here at the B Hive. I have a birthday girl on the 30th. She will be...uh thirty something.

Her unbelievable son is growing by leaps and bounds. He is not walking yet, but he's doing other personal little things we won't mention here, much MUCH earlier than most children. He got his first hair cut last Wednesday.

Admiring his new "do" with the hairdresser. Who, by the way, did a fantastic job!

As for me, I'm still working on my quest to lose another 10 pounds before my son's wedding. I'm getting there, but it's slow going.  Contrary to popular belief and commercials, there is no magic pill. Hard work is what it takes, and consistency. Ugh.

I've been looking online for dresses, and won't begin shopping for real for another week or so. Don't want to cut it too close, since the wedding is on April 23rd. When I find my dress, I'll be sure to give you a look see. Shoes are another issue. Why oh why do all the really cute ones have to have 4 or 5 inch heels? Can anyone tell me that?!! I can't stand at a wedding on those things. I'll be hard pressed to find something I like, that is low enough heeled, but not grandma looking. Wish me luck!

Ok, getting a bargain is not really an impressive thing to blog about. I never, repeat never find something on clearance that works for me. So, when I finally found a little something, to me it was definitely newsworthy...

As you may remember, I've been gathering items to redecorate my bedroom and attached bathroom. It's slow going with funds being limited, but today I spied a little something that I had been pondering for the longest.

A set of hooks that match the curtain I bought several weeks ago.

In the photo, it doesn't look like they match and the names of the designs are different. The lighting must be playing tricks on us, but they definitely do go together in real life.  What did I pay for them? They were originally $8.00, but I found them on clearance........wait for it........for $2.00!!!! I was thrilled.

I wasn't even looking for anything, just browsing. What a blessing!!!!

Another thing to be thankful for, and you might consider a score, is that LMW has been using the potty. Yes, he's not even quite 11 months old, but the genius has been sitting there like a big boy and doing his business. SWEET!!

And I have finally gotten back into some clothes that were a bit too tight for comfort.  Not posting pics of that folks, sorry... :P  What a great week so far!!! God is so good!

Pretty Much Perfect Saturday

After a very long and tiring week, today was as close to perfect as a Saturday could get.

I started the day by staying in bed longer than usual. Ahhhh, so nice.

A short trip to Walmart to get a few necessities, and no waiting in line. Woo hoo. Very little traffic in town as well.

Next on my agenda, was to visit the local pharmacy to pick up a prescription, and purchase an inexpensive baby gift for an upcoming shower. Not often can I find something in my price range there, but joy, joy, I found the perfect thing for exactly what I wanted to spend. How great is that?!

Ok, errands taken care of, so next was yard work. Work I planned to do earlier in the week, but an unexpected day of LMW took precedence. And that was fine with Nanna!

I cleaned out flower beds, transferred a bush and some hostas from the front to the back, and planted a few bedding plants in pots. I finished the yard off, with a good scrubbing of the back porch and it sparkles! I'm so happy with that.

After mopping up the dirty floor, (from said yard work tracking in and out) I took a nice long hot shower. Ahhhh.

Then to the sewing machine I went. I spent a few hours replacing some velcro on LMW's diaper covers, and then worked on SR's Irish Chain. Now I'm ready to start the "quilt as you go" process... and I'm just a little scared. Never done that before, and I hope, hope, hope it works out better than trying to quilt the whole thing at once.

Now it's time to kick back in the recliner and rest a bit. Tomorrow is the Lord's day and I am helping with a bridal shower in the afternoon. Lot's of young people getting hitched in the next couple of months. Not to mention my own fine son and his lovely fiance! I'm excited about that!

Thank you Lord for this beautiful, productive day. Thank you that I have the freedom to do as I please without worrying about bombs, attacks, or lack of basic needs. Thank God from Whom all blessings flow!

In Everything Give Thanks...

My last post was one of thanksgiving. And it reminds me to give thanks no matter what is going on. Things are not as great as I'd like since the last post. There are always mountains and valleys. It's comforting to know that God is in the valley too. You can't stay on the mountain all the time either. It's not practical or possible.

I give thanks that He is in control. He is our comforter and redeemer. He has blessed my family in untold measure. (No matter what is going on.)

And how can we not be thankful for this bright eyed angel?

Things Have Changed

It occurred to me that my blog posts have slowed way down simply because things have changed. For the longest, many of my posts were complaining about work or health issues or my Mom's illness. I haven't posted a complaining blog in the longest time because, well things have changed.

  1. I no longer work outside the home. Most of my blog posts were complaints about work and how I wanted to just stay home every day. I hated getting up early and having to get ready and leave the house. I didn't really “hate” my job, but just working in general. For years I yearned to stay at home. Why have I not spent as much time blogging about how thankful I am to be staying home?

  1. As I said, I hated getting up early. I would drag myself out of bed due to dread, and because I never slept well and was still tired when the alarm sounded. Now? I usually get up between 6:00 and 6:30 because I'm sleeping much better and am wide awake at that time. Why am I not blogging about how thankful I am to be sleeping better?

  1. I used to blog about how bad I felt. I would talk about doctor visits and pain and whine, whine, whine. Since I am happier, I feel better. Since I've found a particular medication for a big part of my troubles, I am more energetic. Why am I not blogging about how much better I feel? And thankful that God has given us the science to make our health better?

  1. I used to whine about not knowing my place in the world. Not knowing what God wanted of me. Now, I know what it is. It's to be the caretaker of LMW. His Mom needed to know he was in good hands while she had to work. I think it gives her great comfort knowing that he is with people who love and care greatly for him every day. Why am I not blogging about how thankful I am that her mother-in-law and I are both in a situation to keep him?

  1. Speaking of LMW. For years I ached to hold a bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh child. I would mention it from time to time in my blog and I'm sure LeLe would roll her eyes every time she read it. Now? Holding LMW is like holding a piece of heaven in my arms. He's now 10 months old, and I keep wondering if the feeling will ever lessen. I doubt it. He is the joy of my life. I do post about him most of the time, but I don't thank God in my post much. Why is that?

  1. I used to post about my Mom's health issues. She did so well for so long, but the cancer finally took her. I don't post about her since she's gone now, but I think about her a lot. She didn't suffer much in the end. Just a week of not being able to move without tremendous pain and for most of that time she was out of it. Why have I not posted about how thankful I am that she is no longer in pain and with the Heavenly Father?

So, you can see why my blog posts have slowed down so much. I am not thankful enough. Let me take this opportunity to thank my God for His great mercy and compassion. For using everything and anything for His purpose. For giving me the desires of my heart. What a mighty, loving, wonderful God we serve!
